Dance Center enjoys a unique location that stretches between the historic and highly dense site in Tbilisi. The site sits on Saburtalo mountain ridge and overlooks the other part of the city.

Visible from two expressways as well as from Vakhushti Bagrationi Bridge, the Dance Center will be a prominent landmark that links the left and right river bank. The Center will be a gathering place, forging new connections with the existing dance activities and inviting the urban realm into the new civic anchor.

The 10,000sqm building will be Tbilisi’s first Dance Center in over 100 years. Imagined as a multi-functional center that will have traditional dances, concerts, seminars and theatrical performances.
The major programme of the building consists of Concert Hall (that will serve as a multi-purpose event space) and the Rehearsal hall. These two distinct functions are linked by a sequence of public domains including an open amphitheater with multifunctional terrace and the rooftop garden.

The five-storey building creates an urban void and offers a place for open-air choreographic experience for the city. By using the existing steep topography, our proposal creates a vertical void on the site. The design focuses on fostering dialogue between performance and the public – the new building will be a connector between the city and Dance Center.
