Multipurpose Hall, Lopota, Georgia

The project site is situated in Lopota village, occupying the last undeveloped area within the lakefront complex. Positioned as a connecting link between the coastal development, the site engages in dialogue with both the natural surroundings and the overall urban fabric. The design features a generous public space between the lake and the event hall, providing areas for outdoor events.
Envisioned as a “choreographic village” for celebrations and conferences, the building is arranged on a rural scale with an orderly, structured layout. The symmetrical pavilions reflect the existing context, incorporating simple rural architectural elements such as houses, gates, façades, roofs, and paths. This functional design centres around a flexible central hall, while the linear roof highlights the horizontal character of the landscape. Its lowered front edges reduce the building’s scale, creating intimate, covered spaces. The structure is designed to seamlessly blend indoor and outdoor areas, offering a versatile space with limitless potential.

The central hall, a 40-by-40-metre open area, is designed to host both conferences and celebrations. Acoustic, movable walls allow for the space to be partitioned as needed. To the west, a large vestibule serves as the main entry, while a stage is situated at the opposite end. Natural light filters through ceiling openings in the lobbies, vestibules, and the central part of the hall, providing daylight illumination. These spaces can be enclosed with movable partitions and curtains when necessary. Two open balconies, accessible from the main vestibule, offer views of the lake and the château, providing new perspectives of the complex.

The building is composed of two primary structural elements: reinforced concrete legs supporting the structure, and a straight metal truss roof spanning the hall. The white concrete façade harmonises with the nearby château, while the wooden interior finishes enhance the natural character of the complex. The event hall features a light-coloured poured floor, which extends to the covered exterior perimeter of the building.
